NSA Under 27 'Getting Started in Sheep Farming' Webinar

Date: 3rd June 2020

Time: 7pm

Following the successful initiation of NSA into the world of webinars, we set our sights on targeting innovative, enthusiastic and professional young people. On Wednesday 3 June 2020 we broadcast our first live webinar to address the younger membership base and explore the concept of ‘Getting Started In Sheep Farming’. In a time where there are so many limiting factors, we have never been in such a time of uncertainty especially with Brexit around the corner. Some of you will have had your own ideas or will be helping others and some of you will already be on your sheep farming journey. No matter what stage you are in your agricultural career this was the webinar to help you lay foundations to secure a place in the future sheep industry.

The first presentation we had was from John Fyall, a current tenant farmer, agricultural valuer and immediate past NSA Scotland Chairman who gave his top tips on what he learnt when starting out in sheep farming. This was followed by Adriana Vaux, an advisor at the Tenant Farmers Association, who explained the ins and outs of applying for a tenancy and creating a business plan. To finish we heard from this year’s NSA Next Generation Ambassadors Amy Jo Reid and Dylan Laws who inspired with their stories and proved that it can be done and had some very useful advice from a young person’s perspective. The webinar concluded with a question and answer session where plenty of questions were asked and attendees had the chance to reflect over some polls relating to the topics discussed.
